Potentially Hazardous Asteroid 2024 MK very close encounter: online observation – 29 June 2024.
On 29 June 2024, the potentially hazardous asteroid 2024 MK will have a very close, but safe, encounter with us, coming at about 295000 km from the Earth, about 77% of the average lunar distance, becoming one of the brightest objects of its kind seen in recent history. The Virtual Telescope Project will show it to you live!

The potentially hazardous asteroid 2024 MK was discovered on 16 June 2024 and announced three days later. Its diameter is estimated in the 120 – 280 meters range, while the minimum distance will be reached on 29 June at 13:49 UTC (source: Nasa/JPL). Of course, there are no risks at all for our planet. Because of its size and proximity, it will peak in brightness at magnitude 8.5 around the fly-by, easily to see with modest binoculars.
The Virtual Telescope Project will show it live, online, a few hours after the minimum distance, once visible from Italy. This way, you can have a look from the comfort of your home.
