Supernova PSN J12040516+1404059 in PGC 038162: an image (24 May 2015)
The supernova PSN J12040516+1404059 in PGC 038162 was imaged as part of the Virtual Telescope’s supernova follow-up program.
The image above comes from the average of twelve, 60-seconds exposures, unfiltered, remotely collected with the PlaneWave 17″+Paramount ME+SBIG STL-6303E robotic unit part of the Virtual Telescope Project. The supernova was estimated at mag. 17.3 (R mags for the reference stars from UCAC-4). Spectroscopy revealed this is a type Ia supernova.
