Next  1 Sept. 2017, at 12:06 UT, the Potentially Hazardous Asteroid 3122 Florence will reach its minimum distance from the Earth of about 7 millions of km. Of course, this is a very safe distance, so no risks at all for our planet. With a estimated  diameter of 4.3 km, 3122 Florence is the largest asteroid approaching us so close since the discovery of the first near-Earth asteroid in 1898.  It will be an easy sight with small binoculars and telescopes, too.

Of course, the Virtual Telescope Project will offer a live, online event sharing real-time images of (3122) Florence with live commentary by our Director, astrophysicist Gianluca Masi.

The online, free session is scheduled for 31 Aug. 2017, staring at 19:30 UT.
