Supernova SN 2022jzc in NGC 4088 spiral galaxy: a image – 5 July 2022.
We observed the supernova SN 2022jzc in the NGC 4088 spiral galaxy, as part of our supernova follow-up program: here it is our image.
The image above comes from the average of seven, 120-second exposures, unfiltered, remotely taken with the “Elena” (PlaneWave 17″+Paramount ME+SBIG STL-6303E) robotic unit available as part of the Virtual Telescope Project. The supernova is indicated by an arrow in the upper left inset. At the imaging time, the target was low (less than 25 deg.) above the horizon.
The host galaxy is NGC 4088, a very beautiful spiral galaxy located at about 45 millions of light years. As for the supernova, we estimated SN 2022jzc as bright as mag. 16.4 (unfiltered, R-mags for the reference stars from the Gaia DR2 star catalogue). This transient was discovered on 16 May 2022 by ZTF survey and it is a type II supernova. On the left, the spiral galaxy NGC 4085 is also visible.
