We continue tracking comet C/2022 E3 ZTF as it slowly approaches its perihelion: here it is our latest image.

Comet C/2022 E3 ZTF. 12 Sept. 2022.

The image above comes from the average of 21, 180-second exposures, unfiltered, remotely collected with the “Elena” (PlaneWave 17″+Paramount ME+SBIG STL-6303E) robotic unit available at the Virtual Telescope Project. The telescope tracked the apparent motion of comet C/2022 E3 ZTF, this is why stars left long trails on the background. The image was processed to show both the bright region and the dusty tail at their best. A very bright Moon was rising, making the imaging conditions less than ideal and a satellite crossed the field of view during the imaging session.

There are chances to see this comet by naked eye early next year, let’s see how it will evolve.
