Lucy close fly-by with the Earth: online observation – 16 Oct. 2022
Next 16 oct. 2022 the Lucy spacecraft, on its way to Jupiter’s Trojan asteroids, will have a close fly-by with the Earth. The Virtual Telescope Project will bring it to you live, online!
The Lucy spacecraft will reach a minimum distance from the Earth’s surface on 16 Oct., at 11:04 UTC, passing at 350 km from it. This first fly-by will help the probe to gain some energy to reach its destination: the exploration of a few Jupiter trojan asteroids.
This fly-by will happen exactly one year after Lucy was launched and we will show the probe a few hours after it, as soon as the spacecraft will be visible in the Italian skies.
Our live event showing Lucy during its fly-by is scheduled for 16 Oct. 2022, starting at 23:00 UTC.
To join the Lucy fly-by live event you just need to enter, at the date and time above, our webTV page here!
