Supernova SN 2022xkq in NGC 1784 galaxy: a image – 1 Nov. 2022.
We observed the supernova SN 2022xkq in the barred spiral galaxy NGC 1784, as part of our supernova follow-up program: here it is our image.
The image above comes from the average of four, 180-second exposures, unfiltered, remotely taken with the “Elena” (PlaneWave 17″+Paramount ME+SBIG STL-6303E) robotic unit available as part of the Virtual Telescope Project. The supernova is indicated by an arrow in the upper left inset.
The host galaxy is the beautiful barred spiral NGC 1784, located at about 80 millions of light years. As for the supernova, we estimated SN 2022xkq as bright as mag. 14.0 (unfiltered, R-mags for the reference stars from the Gaia DR2 star catalogue). This transient was discovered on 13 Oct. 2022 by the DLT40 project and it is a type Ia supernova.
