The ISS tool bag: a new image – 29 Nov. 2023
We imaged again the tool bag went lost in space early in Nov. by astronauts of the International Space Station. See our new image and video.
The image above comes from a single 1-second exposure, unfiltered, remotely taken with the ARTEC250+Paramount ME+C3Pro61000EC robotic unit available as part of the Virtual Telescope Project facility in Manciano, Italy.
The telescope tracked the extremely fast, 1500″/second apparent motion of the bag. The object is the bright, sharp dot of light in the center, while the trails are the stars on the background.
We could see the ingress of the tool bag into the Earth’s shadow, seeing it fading to black in.a few seconds, as documented by the animation below:
Separated by the International Space Station on 2 Nov., at the imaging time (27 days later) the bag was transiting 40 minutes earlier than the ISS.
