Arp 273: an image – 30 Jan. 2024

We imaged Arp 273, one of the most beautiful examples of interaction galaxies. We are pleased to share our view here.

The image above comes from the average of 14, 180-second unfiltered exposures, remotely taken with the Celestron C14+Paramount ME+SBIG ST8-XME robotic unit available as part of the Virtual Telescope Project facility in Manciano, Italy.

Apr 273 is perhaps the most famous example of interacting galaxies. The pair shows a beautiful shape, resembling a cosmic rose. The pair is about 375 million light years away from the Earth. We were suggested to image it by Pier Luigi Catalano, a long time collaborator of our project.
