Supernova SN 2024ggi in the NGC 3621 galaxy: an image – 5 May 2024.
We observed supernova SN 2024ggi in NGC 3621, despite it is very low for the Northern hemisphere. Here it is our image.
The image above comes from the average of three, 120-second exposures, unfiltered and unguided, remotely taken with the ARTEC250+Paramount ME+C3Pro61000EC robotic unit available as part of the Virtual Telescope Project in Manciano, Italy. The supernova is indicated by an arrow and it was only 14 deg. above the horizon.
It was discovered on 11 Apr. 2024 and it is a type II supernova.
NGC 3621, the host galaxy, is a beautiful spiral galaxy, placed at about 22 million of light years from the Earth.
