Supernova SN 2024pxl in the NGC 6384 galaxy: an image – 1 Aug. 2024.
We photographed supernova SN 2024pxl in the stunning spiral galaxy NGC 6384 and are pleased to share it here.
The image above comes from the average of 7, 300-second exposures, unfiltered and unguided, remotely taken with the “Elena” (PlaneWave 17″ + Paramount MEII + SBIG STL-6303E) robotic unit available as part of the Virtual Telescope Project facility in Manciano, Italy.
We estimated SN 2024pxl as bright as mag. 15.1 (unfiltered, R-mags for the reference stars from the Gaia DR2 star catalogue). It was discovered on 23 July 2024 and it is a type Ia supernova.
Located at about 77 million of light years, the beautiful host galaxy, NGC 6384 is an intermediate barred spiral galaxy, showing in a dense star field.
