The image above comes from the average of 12, 120-second unguided exposures, remotely taken with the ARTEC250+Paramount ME+C3Pro61000EC robotic unit available as part of the Virtual Telescope Project facility in Manciano, Italy.
Messier 8 (NGC 6523) is a truly spectacular emission nebula, being one of the brightest ones up there, visible to the naked eye under dark skies. Its distance is estimated around 5.000 light years. In its center we also see the open star cluster NGC 6530.
