Comet C/2023 A3 Tsuchinshan-ATLAS: new image – 25 Oct. 2024

Here it is comet C/2023 A3 Tsuchinshan-ATLAS imaged under fair weather conditions, showing details of its ion tail.

The image above comes from the sigma clipping combination of 4, 120-second exposures, remotely taken with the ARTEC250+Paramount ME+C3Pro61000EC robotic unit available as part of the Virtual Telescope Project facility in Manciano, Italy, under the darkest skies of the Italian peninsula. The telescope tracked at the motion rates of the comet.

Sky conditions were not the best possible, but we recorded nice details along the tail, with an hint of the antitail. In particular, structures of the ion tail are visibile.

We will continue monitoring this comet, despite the weather is not cooperating at all.
