Supernova SN 2024yhg in the UGC 1596 galaxy: an image – 3 Nov. 2024.
We imaged supernova SN 2024yhg in the galaxy UGC 1956. Here it is our picture.
The image above comes from the average of 5, 120-second exposures, unfiltered and unguided, remotely taken with the “Elena” (PlaneWave 17″ + Paramount MEII + SBIG STL-6303E) robotic unit available as part of the Virtual Telescope Project facility in Manciano, Italy.
SN 2024yhg is a type Ia supernova, discovered on 15 Oct. 2024.
Located at about 200 millions of light years, the host lenticular galaxy UGC 1956, shares the same spot of the sky with galaxies PGC 8019 (about 3’ SW) and PGC 8013 (close to the upper right corner)
