The image above comes from the average of 5, 300-second, unguided exposures, unfiltered, remotely taken with the (PlaneWave 17″ + Paramount MEII + SBIG STL-6303E)  robotic unit available as part of the Virtual Telescope Project in Manciano, Italy. The supernova is indicated by an arrow in the upper right insert.

We estimated SN 2024advj as bright as mag. 14.9 (R-mags for the reference stars from the Gaia DR2 star catalogue). SN 2024advj was discovered on 11 Dec. 2024 and it is a type II supernova.

The host galaxy is UGC 604, an edge-on spiral galaxy: it is located at about 400 million light years from us.
