The Moon and Mars close conjunction: 9 Feb. 2025.
We present a couple of images of the 9 Feb. 2025 Moon-Mars conjunction, heavily hampered by clouds, but still a fabulous sight.
The image above comes from the a single, 0.1-second exposure, remotely taken with the ARTEC250+Paramount ME+C3Pro61000EC robotic unit available as part of the Virtual Telescope Project facility in Manciano, Italy. We used an H-alpha filter (bandwidth: 6 nm), to dramatically reduce the amount of light from the Moon.
The Red Planet is visible on the upper right side of the picture and, incredibly, it shows some details despite the image was taken at prime focus. The Moon, too, looks spectacular.
Below is another image, taken with a full frame DSLR coupled with a 400mm lens: the thin layers of clouds added a nice, colorful corona.
This close conjunction between our Moon and planet Mars was a nice one: while not a rare event, enjoying this show was rewarding, as always when the sky is involved.
