Micromoon 2025, the farthest, smallest and faintest full Moon of the year: online observation – 13 Apr. 2025

The 13 April 2025 Pink Moon will be the farthest, hence the smallest full Moon of the year, as it happens close to the lunar apogee, that is at the maximum distance from the Earth. We will show the Pink full Moon live.

On 13 April 2025, at 00:24 UTC, the Moon will be full, 22 hours before its apogee, that is the maximum distance (about 406.000 km) from our planet. As a consequence, our satellite will appear in the sky about 6% smaller than an average full Moon. In addition, this will be the farthest and faintest full Moon of the year (although the extinction due to our atmosphere generally makes the summer, lower full Moons fainter in the middle of the night; the 13 Apr. 2025 full Moon is the faintest of the year considering its distance from the Earth, but not the absorption due to our atmosphere, which is a “local” factor).

The Virtual Telescope Project will share with you this extreme full Moon live, showing real-time images taken with its robotic telescopes installed in Manciano, Italy, in the stunning Maremma’s countryside.

The online, free session is scheduled for 13 April 2025, starting at 00:00 UTC, covering the formal full Moon phase.
