Comet C/2025 F2 SWAN: a new image – 22 Apr. 2025
We imaged comet C/2025 F2 SWAN, despite the extreme (very low altitude, bright twilight) viewing conditions, after its likely disintegration. Here we present our picture.
The image above comes from the average of 8, 30-second exposures, remotely taken with the ARTEC250+Paramount ME+C3Pro61000EC robotic unit available as part of the Virtual Telescope Project facility in Manciano, Italy. The telescope tracked the comet while imaging.
At the observing time, comet C/2025 F2 SWAN was just 7 deg. above the NE horizon, the Sun at -13.5 and the sky was already bright ad dawn.
The comet is very fuzzy, with no evidence of a central condensation, so it likely disintegrated.
We will try to observe it again, if the viewing condition will allow this.
