Near-Earth Asteroid 2025 HF1 close encounter: an image – 23 Apr. 2025

We spotted the near-Earth Asteroid 2025 HF1 on its way to a safe close encounter with the Earth on 24 Apr., when it will come as close as 394.000 km from us, almost the average distance of the Moon.

The image above comes from a single 30-second exposure, remotely taken with the Celestron C14+Paramount ME+SBIG ST-10XME robotic unit available as part of the Virtual Telescope Project. The telescope tracked the fast apparent motion of the asteroid, this is why it looks like a sharp dot of light in the center (indicated by an arrow),  while stars leave long, bright streaks on the background.

At the observing time, asteroid 2025 HF1 was at about 820.000 km from us, safely approaching the Earth.

This 14m-32m large asteroid reached its minimum distance (about 394.000 km, basically the average lunar distance) from us on 24 Apr. 2025, at 11:13 UTC (source: Nasa/JPL). Of course, there were no risks at all for our planet.
