The potentially hazardous asteroid (612356) 2002 JX8 was discovered on 4 May 2002 by the LINEAR Survey. Its diameter is estimated in the 230-510 meters range, while the minimum distance will be reached on 9 May 2025, at 11:02 UTC (source: Nasa/JPL). Of course, there are no risks at all for our planet.

A similar close approach happens one time every one year on average, accordingly to JPL Center for NEO Studies (CNEOS).

The Virtual Telescope Project will show it live, online, on 8 May 2025, starting at 20:30 UTC, when the object will be approaching us. You can join us and spot this rock in real-time from the comfort of your home.
