Comet 38P/Stephan-Oterma: an image (11 Dec. 2018)
Comet 38P/Stephan-Oterma orbits the Sun with a period of 38 years. Its last perihelion was last 10 November. Here it is an image we captured last night.
* NB: versione in Italiano qui *
The image above comes from the average of six, 180-seconds exposures, unfiltered, remotely collected with the “Elena” (PlaneWave 17″+Paramount ME+SBIG STL-6303E) robotic unit available at the Virtual Telescope Project in Italy. The robotic telescope tracked the apparent motion of Comet 38P/Stephan-Oterma, so stars left trails on the background. The image scale is 1.2″/pixel.
We plan to observe this comet again, so stay tuned.
