Supernova SN 2021afsj in UGC 4671 galaxy: a image – 23 Feb. 2022.
We observed the supernova SN 2021afsj in the UGC 4671 galaxy, as part of our supernova follow-up program: here it is our image.

The image above comes from the average of three, 300-second exposures, unfiltered, remotely taken with the “Elena” (PlaneWave 17″+Paramount ME+SBIG STL-6303E) robotic unit available as part of the Virtual Telescope Project. The supernova is indicated by an arrow in the upper left inset.
The host is UGC 4671, a galaxy located at about 170 millions of light years. As for the supernova, we estimated SN 2021afsj as bright as mag. 17.1 (unfiltered, R-mags for the reference stars from the Gaia DR2 star catalogue). This transient was discovered on 29 Nov. 2021 by Shuji Tokuoka and it is a type Ia supernova.
The host galaxy form a pair with NGC 2692, which is visible a few arc-minutes away.
Further observations will follow, weather permitting.
