Potentially Hazardous Asteroid (488453) 1999 XD close encounter: online observation – 11 June 2023

Next 12 June 2023, the Potentially Hazardous Asteroid (488453) 1994 XD will have a relatively close and obviously safe fly-by with our planet, coming as close as 3.1 millions of km, about 8 times the average lunar distance. The Virtual Telescope Project will show it to you live, online: join us from the comfort of your home!

The potentially hazardous asteroid (488453) 1994 XD has an estimated diameter in the range 370 – 830 meters (source: Nasa/JPL). It is a binary asteroid, with a companion discovered in 2005. The Virtual Telescope Project will show it live, online, just before the fly-by time. This way, you can join the journey from the comfort of your home.
