Potentially Hazardous Asteroid (447755) 2007 JX2 relatively close encounter: an image – 3 Nov. 2024.
Next 3 Dec., the Potentially Hazardous Asteroid (447755) 2007 JX2 will have a relatively close, but obviously safe encounter with the Earth, coming as close as 5.5 millions of km from us. Here it is our image.
The image above comes from the average of five, 120-second exposures, remotely taken with the “Elena” (PlaneWave 17″ + Paramount MEII + SBIG STL-6303E) robotic unit available as part of the Virtual Telescope Project.
At the imaging time, asteroid 2007 JX2 was at about 34 million of km from us and approaching.
This 450-meter large asteroid will reach its minimum distance (about 5.5 millions of km, 14.4 times the average lunar distance) from us on 3 Dec. 2024, at 23:16 UTC (source: Nasa/JPL). Of course, there are no risks at all for our planet.
