M 57, the “Ring Nebula” – Lyr
The amazing Messier 57 planetary nebula has been imaged several times from the Virtual Telescope robotic facility. Sure, it is one of the most spectacular deep sky objects, easy to see even from live polluted skies, with small telescopes.
The image above comes from a set of filtered images, with the final intention to get a color image. While the red, green and blue images were taken with typical RGB filters, the luminance component, bringing details to the final image, was taken through a H-alpha, narrow-band filter.
All the frames were captured with the Celestron C14″ robotic unit, part of the Virtual Telescope Project. The image scale is of 0.62″/pixel.
